Political party of united opposition groups registered as Linyon Demokratik Seselwa |08 April 2016

Linyon Demokratik Seselwa is the name of a registered political party representing the opposition groups which united at the second round of the Presidential Election in December 2015.

The party was registered yesterday under that name by the Electoral Commission. The office bearers are Roger Mancienne (chairman/party leader), Clifford Andre (secretary-general), Roy Fonseka (treasurer).

“By registering the party under a new name, we wish to tell our supporters that we want to move on and do the work of a serious political organisation, which is to fight for a better system of government for our country and the well-being of the people of Seychelles,” says a communiqué from the party.

“We continue to condemn the deceitful and malicious appropriation of a name that we have used repeatedly and consistently since the Presidential Election and which has become publicly acknowledged as our name. If another political party does not even have the imagination to think up a name for itself but has to appropriate our name, then it is indeed poor in mind and does not deserve respect,” adds the communiqué.

“‘Linyon’ is an appropriate label for our party because it is composed of a number of groups which have come together in unity. It is this unity that is important because we need to ensure a strong voice for the majority of the people of Seychelles,” states teh communiqué.
