Football: Coaches get tools to groom young footballers |27 August 2013

Seychelles football is in need of continuous progress and it is with this in mind that coaches are constantly being trained to better develop young talents.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Youth High Level Coaching Course was launched yesterday at the Maison Football, Roche Caiman and it aims at giving local coaches the tools and knowledge to develop the next generation of Seychelles footballers.

The course is being directed by local FIFA instructor Ulrich Mathiot, who is also the technical director of the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF).

In his opening address, Mr Mathiot said that “the courses which FIFA is providing to Seychelles football shows the trust that FIFA has in the educational programmes of the SFF”.
He said he was hoping the coaches can gain as much as possible from this course.

Launching the five-day coaching course, the SFF’s vice-chairman Roch Henriette pointed out that “if you are working with football, it is very important to get and make the most of such courses”.
He said he expects the participants to try and gain as much knowledge and skills as possible so that they can help in the development of football.

Mr Henriette also praised Mr Mathiot for being the only Seychellois FIFA coaching instructor and was also happy that the course is being run by someone who speaks the same language as the other coaches.

Among those present at the opening ceremony were Emmanuel Amade from the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) and Antoinette Nanon from the Ministry of Community Development, who are partners of the SFF. They both received a small gift which included equipment and videos being used by the delegates during the course.

The course will end with the launch of the SFF Football Academy on Saturday, followed by a small football tournament.
