Stakeholders meet to validate MDG report 2013 |30 August 2013

Stakeholders met on Tuesday this week to validate the contents of the third millennium development goals (MDG) national report for the year 2013.

The MDG report 2013 represents further analysis of trends, inequalities, successes and gaps in Seychelles’ progress made towards the achievement of the eight MDGs and their targets.

Present at Tuesday’s workshop held at the Constance Ephelia Resort at Port Launay were the secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Barry Faure; special adviser to the Minister for Environment and Energy Didier Dogley; representatives from various ministries, governmental departments and non-governmental organisations; district administrators; members of the National Assembly; consultants of the report and other guests.

Seychelles is one among the 12 countries which received funding from UNDP to produce the report which started in July.  The workshop looked at the national document thoroughly so that when it is presented to the United Nations general assembly, Seychelles can be proud of the hard work put in to validate the document.

The report also highlights Seychelles’ progress since 2000.

The workshop placed emphasis on the goals of the report and whether they have been achieved, as well as the factors that have influenced the progress.

Therefore, the policies, strategies and recommendations put forward in the report have to be clearly attainable before presenting it to the UN.

By far, almost all of the eight goals and targets put forward have been achievable in Seychelles to a certain level, not disregarding certain elements that still remain as minor challenges to ensure 100 percent success rate in all that it wants to achieve.

Ambassador Faure, who spoke on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam, stated that “the report highlights the progress, gaps and challenges of Seychelles in relation to the eight international goals of the report which aims towards making changes in people’s lives by 2015”.

He said the facts and figures contained within the document are facets of Seychelles’ challenges, but it remains a unique opportunity in the National Development formalities for the next generation, as it places the people of Seychelles at the core.
