SPTC introduces revised scheme of service for bus drivers |02 September 2013

Bus drivers of the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) have, since yesterday, September 1, 2013, been benefitting from a revised scheme of service.

SPTC chief executive Geffy Zialor made this information public in a press communiqué, adding that the scheme of service for drivers which was last reviewed in 2007 has now been updated “to meet the emerging complexities and challenges being faced by SPTC bus drivers”.

This follows an announcement made by the Minister for Internal Affairs and Transport Joël Morgan in the National Assembly on April 16, 2013 regarding the working conditions of SPTC bus drivers.

Mr Zialor said that the scheme clearly defines the responsibilities and obligations of drivers and outlines expectations such as driver attitude vis-à-vis passengers and companies which SPTC holds contracts with, bus care (cleanliness), punctuality, attendance and discipline, among others.

Other components contained in the scheme are work conditions, allowances, overtime, bonuses and conditions for salary progression.

Furthermore, the scheme of service details the career structure and is aimed at attracting and retaining potential drivers.

Following the adoption of the scheme, drivers whose salary needed adjustments to fall in line with the new scheme of service have had their arrears paid in August 2013.

The SPTC hopes that the revised scheme of service will help boost the drivers’ morale, performance and motivate them to deliver a better service, so as to further promote the SPTC’s image.
