Lungos changes name to reflect new role |03 September 2013

In line with its transformation into a national platform for a stronger civil society, the Liaison Unit for Non-governmental Organisations (Lungos) has decided to change its name to Civil Engagement Platform of Seychelles (Ceps).

The decision was approved during a general meeting on Saturday, following negotiations and discussions with members which started in September of last year, with the expertise of the School of Business Management of the University of Seychelles.

The transformation has been made possible through a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the UN organisation providing funding under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) project.

Lungos has explained that the transformation will imply a change in its legal status, the drafting of a new constitution, a fresh strategic plan for the period 2013-2017 as well as new criteria for membership. With the new criteria, Ceps will now be able to admit a wider range of organisations which Lungos could not accommodate under its constitution and the old framework.
