Don’t misuse parking space for disabled |07 September 2013

If a non-disabled motorist parks in a bay reserved for disabled people he or she is misusing that space.

Some non-disabled drivers even refuse to remove their vehicles from a space reserved for disabled and this is very annoying and unethical.

While some do not bother and park their vehicles for a long time in such reserved bays, others leave their car running as if they won’t be long.

As we are all aware that police officers and traffic wardens won’t always know if the motorists whose vehicles are parked in the bay for disabled have some kind of disability, one of the options is to have disabled persons plates or placards issued by a government agency like the Seychelles Licensing Authority.

Issuing of disabled persons plates or placards should be done well and only to those who really need them.

This means that if motorists have a valid disabled placard or plate they can park in the space reserved for disabled persons; if they don’t, they can’t.

It is high time motorists respect these regulations and those caught committing such offences should be fined.

It is also a sign of respect towards disabled persons when non-disabled people are courteous and respectful towards them.
