Cargo terminal and customs building extension and renovation project |12 September 2013

Completion of phase one

Importers and members of the public will as of next week benefit with improved services and facilities available for cargo handling, processing and delivery, now that phase one of the cargo terminal and customs building extension and renovation project at the airport has been completed.

In order not to interrupt services offered to the public, some alternative arrangements had to be made at the beginning of this project to ensure the smooth running of business.

Now with the full completion of new additional, storage, handling and delivery areas, all operations currently taking place in their current locations will be moved to the new facilities as of Monday September 16, 2013.

The Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) will be handing over the completed facilities to the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC) and Air Seychelles on Friday September 13, 2013 at 9.30am at the new cargo warehouse at the airport.  These agencies will for their part be moving to the new facility starting at close of business on Friday September 13 and this should be over by September 15.

To ease the transfer from one building to another, there will be no services to the public on Saturday September 14, 2013, except for perishable cargo. All operations in the new areas will start as of Monday September 16, 2013.

Members of the public collecting or delivering their cargo at the airport will also notice some new arrangements for parking/ docking and circulation of vehicles.

The cargo terminal and customs building extension and renovation project has been executed by the SCAA and the cost at completion, late November/early December 2013 is expected to be around R13.5 million.
