Communiqué on Marek Trajter |17 September 2013

‘Allegations of abuse and torture malicious and untruthful’

The Ministry responsible for Home Affairs has described as “malicious and untruthful” allegations that Marek Trajter has been abused and tortured while in detention here.
The ministry issued a communiqué yesterday clarifying the situation as follows:

“Marek Trajter has been in detention under immigration Decree by a lawful process awaiting his deportation since September 5, 2013.

“Mr Trajter went to the Seychelles Supreme Court asking the court to declare his arrest and his detention as illegal, but failed.

“He was physically seen by the court, and the court was satisfied with the physical, mental, and his detention conditions.
“The Court ordered the mandatory departure of Mr Trajter to his home country, and that he must board the flight arranged by the Immigration authorities at 11:25pm on September 7, 2013.
“On September 7, 2013, he refused to board the flight, violating the law of this country and flouting the court’s direction.

“His lawyer, Anthony Derjacques, has been given free access to meet his client, Mr Trajter, while in detention.
“The government has taken all steps to guarantee his legal and human rights contrary to some untruthful and malicious allegations of torture as alleged by the Seychelles National Party (SNP).

“Mr Trajter is a fugitive from justice, and is the subject of an international arrest warrant, a European arrest warrant, and an INTERPOL Red Alert Notice, on charges relating to murder.

“The government has declared Mr Trajter a prohibited immigrant and has declared his presence in Seychelles as inimical to the public interest, a decision which has been upheld by the courts.”
