Taxi operators re-elect Madeleine as chairman |26 September 2013

Davidson Madeleine has been re-elected as the chairperson of the Taxi Operator’s Association.

The election took place recently at the association’s office at Tobruk Club, Freedom Square.

Speaking to Seychelles Nation vice-chairman Jemmie Bonne said: “I felt it was my obligation to organise this election to choose a chairperson so that our association can move forward.”

The association has more than 200 members but only 142 members were eligible to vote because they were the only ones who have been paying their membership fee unfailingly.

Out of the 142 eligible members, only 103 members casted their votes.

Davidson Madeleine won the election with 57 votes against 44 for his challenger Mervin Camille.

Two out of the 103 votes were considered spoiled votes.

Mr Madeleine will be serving a mandate of three years.

Besides Mr Madeleine as chairman, the other members of the association are Jemmie Bonne (vice- chairman), Sam Rignace (secretary), Teddy Esther (treasurer), Luc Pouponeau, Michael Uranie, Samsi Cafrine and Michael Adela (ordinary members).

“With this new mandate, I hope to continue my work to fight for the rights of the taxi operators, who fell they are being unfairly treated within the economy,” Mr Madeleine said.
He added that he plans to discuss with the ministries concerned to improve businesses for taxi operators.

“I take this opportunity to ask all taxi operators to pay their membership fee to become part of the association,” he said, adding that it is being planned for all taxi operators to be a member of the association as from next year.

The newly elected chairperson is expected to meet committee members today for their first meeting.
