No change in electricity tariffs for next quarter |02 October 2013

There will be no change in electricity tariffs for the next quarter effective October 1 to December 31, 2013.

The chairman of the Seychelles Energy board, Wills Agricole, made the announcement yesterday, saying that the reason for this is that the fuel cost has not changed significantly during the last three months and hence has no major bearing on the Public Utilities Corporation’s occupational and operational costs.

“As a result, there will be no increase in electricity tariffs for all consumers and in all sectors, be it domestic, industrial or commercial between October 1 and December 31, 2013,” Mr Agricole said.

Electricity prices will drop or rise quarterly depending on the prevailing cost of fuel and this quarter the Seychelles Energy Commission together with PUC have noticed that there has not been any noteworthy fluctuation in the cost of fuel, hence no adjustment in the electricity tariffs is called for.

The last time such an announcement was made was in July this year when a reduction of 25 cents per unit was announced across the board.
The next review will be announced in January 2014.
