Port Launay bus terminal to be rebuilt |14 October 2013

Plan for an estimated R1.5 million redevelopment of the Port Launay bus terminal has been finalised and work is expected to start sometime next year, it has been announced.

The minister responsible for Home Affairs and Transport Joël Morgan made the announcement in the National Assembly last Tuesday.

He was answering a question by elected member for Port Glaud Sultane Jacqueline who had asked Minister Morgan if his ministry had any plans to redevelop the Port Launay bus terminal.

Minister Morgan explained that the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC) is planning to carry out major renovation works on the terminal.

“Such renovation is necessary to continue to ensure public security and comfort while at the same time giving a new image to the place situated in an area with booming tourism developments also very popular among local beachgoers,” said the minister.

He told the Assembly that earlier this year the SPTC consulted private businesses in the area to encourage them to help carry out renovation on the terminal.

“I can confirm that recently the Constance Ephelia resort has given its commitment to partner with the SPTC to rebuild the terminal,” Minister Morgan told the Assembly.

He said the resort’s commitment falls under its corporate social responsibility programme aimed at giving back to the community.

“If all goes according to plan the project is expected to start next year and once completed the terminal will include a public parking area, taxi bays, toilets among other facilities,” said Minister Morgan.

The Home Affairs and Transport minister availed of the opportunity to congratulate the management of Constance Ephelia resort for their commitment to the project which would no doubt benefit the Port Glaud community and surrounding areas.

“It is a very good initiative and I am very much encouraged by the SPTC’s effort to modernise the terminal,” said the minister.

He further noted that consultative meetings are being organised to give inhabitants of the district the opportunity to give their inputs and contribute ideas towards the redevelopment project to ensure the whole community’s needs are met and everyone is satisfied once the project is completed.
