CW to launch new IPTV service next year |14 October 2013

Cable & Wireless is hoping to deliver the new IPTV service by the end of March next year, aimed at enhancing clients’ satisfaction and experience as well as offer a wider choice in television.

The company’s chief executive Charles Hammond announced this after answering questions from journalists during a recent press conference.

“The introduction of our much-talked about IPTV is part of our commitment and we look forward to unveiling this service though there are many hurdles,” he said.

“Our company will remain committed to improving services and impacting positively on the lives of our customers as we go along,” added Mr Hammond.

Mr Hammond noted that the company is committed in investing in infrastructure and platforms that will allow Seychelles to keep moving forward in the digital age.

Cable & Wireless is this year celebrating its 120-year anniversary and has embarked on a marketing campaign with various promotions for its clients.

The highlight of the promotions is a raffle that customers can enter to win a brand new Hyundai EON as star prize.

The raffle started on September 16 and will end on November 15, a period during which customers will stand a chance to win 40 prizes every week during the two-month raffle period with daily quiz shows running on two radio stations – PureFM and Paradise FM.

Promotions will also include offers on cable tunes among many others.

During the press conference, representatives of media houses viewed a video showing a brief history of Cable & Wireless in Seychelles and its achievements.

Mr Hammond said the biggest success for Cable & Wireless is its people, the fact that they retain the motivation and have the willingness to keep the customers as the main focus.

Technology wise, the company has done a lot such as being the first to introduce mobile service locally.

On November 11, 1893 the founding company of Cable & Wireless, the Eastern Telegraph Company, connected Seychelles with the rest of the world by a submarine telegraph cable linking us with Zanzibar.

Among the many achievements are the introduction of mobile phones in 1995, roaming service in 1998 and short message service in 2002.

The company introduced the Cable e-Bill and Cable e-Directory in 2003, followed by the acquisition of internet service provider in 2005.

In 2008, the company introduced the Blackberry and in 2010 we saw the launch of the ringback tone service called Cable Tunes. Isurf, a faster prepaid wireless internet service, was also launched in 2010.

In August last year, the company moved from the satellite mode of data transmission to the newer technology, the undersea fibre optic cable.

“With each innovation, especially the recent ones, our customers are kept at the heart of what we do,” he added.

Mr Hammond said as a socially responsible company, the aim is to continue giving support and make significant contributions that will bring positive changes in the lives of those in need.

He gave examples of the support the company has extended to the society in areas such as education, health and environment.

“Over this period of 120 years, we say thank you to our customers who are mostly loyal and believe in our capabilities to deliver the services that they deserve,” he said.

“I also thank my work colleagues for always striving to deliver better experience of communications to our customers and for working to keep us ahead with a mobile market share of around 68% today.”
