Phone firm answers Regatta call

Commenting on Cable and Wireless' long support of the Regatta, CEO Geoff Houston handed over the cheque to Round Table Chairman Andy Moncherry at the company's Exile social club.

"We have a long history with the Regatta and we feel part of the Round Table and Regatta story, it's always a worthy cause," said Mr Houston.
The Cable and Wireless chief also highlighted the event's business implications, saying, "We've always found that as a business we've also got a bit out of it ourselves as its good exposure for our products."
The R10,000 donation is being used to pay for the manufacture of Regatta 2004 T-shirts, sales of which are to contribute to the Round Table's refurbishment of the Ste. Elizabeth's orphanage.

According to Mr Moncherry the fund-raising organisation is hoping to collect around R200,000 at the July 31 – August 1, 2004 Regatta in order to carry out the much needed work at the orphanage
The T-shirts, which go on sale priced R60 for adult sizes and R40 for children, feature a design by well known local artist Colbert Nourrice.
"We've always had a very good relationship with Colbert, he's helped us with our fund raising on a number of occasions, so we approached him and he agreed to do something especially for us," said Regatta organiser Robert Stravens.

This year’s Regatta will feature the usual range of fun filled events and will include the return of the Iron Man and Woman competitions.
Fund raising has already begun with tickets for the Regatta lottery, featuring a brand new Renault Clio as first prize, selling quickly.
