Savy sprints home in winning time

19-July-2004

His time was 3 hours 22 minutes 58 seconds (3h22:58), the same time given to runner-up Bertrand Lesperance of PLS Riders and third-placed finisher Ricky Rosalie of St Francis.

"Like always, I did my best even though I had a small problem with my bike. I'm happy I won today's (Sunday's) race and I hope to get more victories in the coming races," Savy told Sports Nation Sunday morning.

It is to note that because both Savy and Lesperance are junior riders, they took first and second positions in the Junior division, while Marcus Belle, also of Vélo Club de Mahé, finished third in 3h23:48.

3h23:48 is also the time clocked by top local sprinter Hudson Mathieu for fourth place overall.

Sunday's defeat is the second conceded by PLS Riders' Mathieu since returning home in May from overseas training in Switzerland. He registered his first defeat on June 26 in the 75-km circuit race and it was teammate Bertrand Lesperance who robbed him of first place.

Both Vélo Club de Mahé and St Francis finished with 10h10:34 in the final team ranking but first place went to the former because their rider – Alex Savy – had crossed the finish line first. PLS Riders were third with a cumulative time of 10h18:54.
In the Cadet division, Leroy Labiche just can't stop winning.

Like in last Sunday's 45-km circuit race, Belonie School's secondary four student Labiche, who clocked a winning time of 1h05:10, led France Anacoura (second with 1h05:15) and Raoul Gomme (third with 1h11:50).

Meanwhile, the Seychelles Cycling Association has made some changes to its original calendar. Instead of the Coca-Cola Tour this coming weekend, the cyclists will only take part in a 17.1-km individual time-trial on Sunday July 25, starting at 8.30 a.m. at Pointe Larue.

On Saturday July 31, they will take part in a 124-km road race and on Saturday August 7, they will line up for a 75-km circuit race.
The Coca-Cola Tour has been re-scheduled for August 21 and 22, a weekend after the riders have had some rest.
