Petanque: League finals-Trophies evenly distributed |21 July 2004

Seychelles National Olympic Committee (Snoc) president Antonio Gopal joined teammates Auguste Louise and Antoine Botsoie in throwing the bowls well to win the men's triplette league championship.

The trio won all their three matches over opponents from Mont Buxton (two) and La Digue.
In second and third positions were teams from Mont Buxton. Bernard Sinon, Ivans Anacoura, Patrick Françoise and André Robert formed the team who finished second, while Roland Renaud, Joseph Charles and Bernard Chang-Time were third.

It is to note that of the three finalists from La Digue, only the team comprising Nasolo Jonah, Goldy Asba and Ericsen Larsen made the trip to Mahe and they finished in fourth position.

In the ladies' doublette final, the battle was between three teams from Mahe as La Digue representatives again did not turn up.

Mont Buxton's Sheila Chang-Time and Livia Sinon were declared the champions on a countback after one win and one victory.

Linda Sinon, Virna Fanny and Vynah Louise also of Mont Buxton were second, while the Roche Caïman team of Vivianne Finesse, Sheila Adolphe and Dorothy Joubert were third.

Diguois bowlers did go home with trophy won in the junior division. Originally set to be a triplette final, the organisers decided that the competition be played on a doubles basis.

Evans Elizabeth and Allain Moïse, who had qualified for the final with two different teams, joined forces to come out on top with four wins in five matches played.

Second position went to another La Digue team of Raphael Ernesta and Samuel Servina, while the Chang-Time brothers of Benny, Fabien and Nicholas, who had dominated almost all local competitions in the recent past, settled for third place.

The association has said that it hopes to organise another league competition later this year but in the meantime, there will be one-day tournaments of which the dates will be announced later.
There is also the possibility of Seychelles sending a men's team to the World Championship in France in September.
