Volleyball: League Championship-Premium Spikers and Arsu extend winning streak |11 August 2004

With a 3-0 win, over RC United, Premium Spikers remain unbeaten in the men's first division, a record also being held by Arsu, 3-0 victors over La Digue-based Magpie Robins in the women's top flight.

Having overcome their toughest opponents Beau Vallon and Cascade 'A' two weekends ago, Arsu and Premium Spikers have shown that the favourites tags suit them well and that it is going to take their opponents a great deal of courage and determination to try and shatter their dreams of lifting this year's trophy.

On Sunday Arsu, who decided not to defend their Curtain-raiser crown leaving the initiative to arch-rivals Cascade 'A' to triumph in front of La Digue, eased past Magpie Robins in straight sets 25-4, 25-12 and 25-16 after 40 minutes of play.

St Louis Bombers also went home victorious on Sunday after putting up a good fight against a determined Cascade 'B' whom they defeated 3-1.

Cascade 'B' claimed the first set 25-16 before giving in in the second, third and fourth sets which they lost by the slightest of margins 26-24, 27-25 and 26-24.

As for Cascade 'A' they easily dispose of a below par Anse Royale Youth 3-0 (25-21 25-14 25-14) for their seventh victory in eight matches.

Grand Anse Mahe-based Agrics picked-up a victory at the expense of Glacis who the day before (Saturday) had beaten Magpie Robins 3-2 (25-17 16-25 10-25 25-14 15-9).
On Sunday Agrics survived a scare before prevailing over coach Derrick Andrew's Glacis in four sets 14-25 28-26 25-15 and 26-24.

Premium Spikers outsmart RC United to remain perfect

In the men’s top flight encounter between Premium Spikers and RC United, the latter looked stronger at the net in the opening set which they won 22-13.

Star-studded Premium Spikers, whosetalented players and good playing strategies brought a lot of the entertainment to the match, claimed the remaining two sets 25-18 and 25-17.

Victory over RC United was Premium Spikers' eighth in as many matches and they remain on top of the standings with 24 points, while Beau Vallon who also thrashed United Brothers 3-0 (25-18 25-23 25-23) consolidate their second position with 22 points after seven wins and a defeat.

For their part Racing Club did not have to sweat against Bel Ombre Pirates who did not turn up for the match.

Three men's division two games were also played over the weekend.

La Digue whitewashed Anse Royale 3-0 (25-21 25-14 25-18) and on a similar 3-0 (25-15 25-22 25-19) score Pointe Larue edged Cadets while Juniors had to work hard to pull off a 3-2 (21-25 25-18 25-16 19-25 15-6) win over PLS Squad.

In the women's bottom division, United Sisters had to sweat it out before claiming a tight 3-2 (25-17 16-25 10-25 25-14 15-9) win over RC 2000.
