16 Days of Activism against domestic violence-Domestic violence affects men too |04 December 2004
However, it must also be acknowledged that there are men who are also being abused physically and verbally by their partners. Most of the time men tend to keep quiet and do not report their abuses because they are afraid of being laughed at or ridiculed by their friends.
The fathers' association is urging those men who are being affected by domestic violence to seek help before things get out of hand.
The AFPRP has been active in promoting stable families and will continue to create programmes to help parents and children achieve peace and stability at home.
The home should be the place where there is love understanding, harmony between family members, Mr Reginald Elizabeth, the chairperson of the AFPRP said this week.
He said that domestic violence affects all age groups and that it is very sad to note that even some old people are physically and emotionally abused by their children.
During the 16 Days of Activism against violence, Mr Elizabeth is calling on men who are in abusive relationships to reflect seriously on their plight and come out to seek help. Assistance can be sought through socal services, the family tribunal and other bodies in the country.
He pointed out that the Fathers' association also provides counselling 24 hours through their helpline. The phone number is 718000.
