The President of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles Colette Servina accepted the donation from Mr Chetty in a small ceremony recently.

Mr Chetty said he was touched by the impact of the natural disaster which struck the Asian and Indian Ocean regions, affecting many people.

He added that "we should all contribute whatever we can to help those who have been affected internationally or locally."
According to Mrs Servina the shoes and underwear were to be sent to Sri Lanka by cargo on January 2.

Meanwhile, Mr Chetty will also donate 25 mattresses to the RCSS to help locals who have been affected by the December 26 tidal waves and the torrential rains which the country was experiencing.

Mrs Servina added that in collaboration with the local Red Cross, the Rotary Club of Victoria and Seychellois individuals, the Sri Lankan consulate in Seychelles and Sri Lankans living here are contributing to assist victims in Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment has also announced that the consignment of clothes and food items collected during the year by its officials and which was supposed to be sent to Darfur, Sudan, will now be shipped to Sri Lanka.

Thanking Hunt Deltel for shipping the goods to Sri Lanka, the Red Cross Society of Seychelles has made a special appeal for more assistance.
