Basketball: League championship-Pointe Larue Falcons reach century

Pointe Larue Falcons

Coached by former player Conrad Gabriel who now plays for SMB Razorback in the Men division 1A league, Pointe Larue Falcons shot straight to the top of the second division league table with a 116-24 victory over newly-formed RA Herons.

Team manager Nichol Gabriel has said that he wants Pointe Larue Falcons, captained by Kevin Sinon who played for MBU Rockers last season, to play top flight basketball again like some four years ago before the team disbanded.

He added that some old players are to re-unite with the team at the start of next season.
Five teams are involved in this year’s two-round second division league.

In division 1B, MBU Rockers, who lost last year’s play-off to Cascade Bullets after having finished a place before last in the Men division 1A, are unbeaten in two matches after defeating Mont Fleuri Dawgz 60-45.

After losing most of their players following their demotion from the top flight at the end of last season, LMS Jazz aren’t doing well in the 1B league with a third consecutive defeat. Their latest loss came against AAP Brothers by the slightest of margins - 61-60.

Meanwhile, in the women’s league, leaders Anse Etoile Stars can extend their winning run to five games this afternoon when they play Juniors but last week they thumped Hackers 79-33.
