Little ones go a long way to cover gap

The children and their animateurs watch attentively as Mr Leon Tirant shows them how to weave baskets

The 42 came from the school's 75-strong Young Citizens' Club according to their coordinator Mariese Pointe.

She said the activity helped the young people to get used to interacting with older people, which they did as they also cleaned the senior citizens' quarters and exchanged stories with them.

Some of the senior citizens also taught them a few new skills, for example how to weave baskets and to make brooms.

"They have taken this opportunity to reach out to others in return for this year being dedicated to them under the national theme 'Our children, our treasure, our future,'" she said.
