Vijay Construction scholarship offer arouses interests |05 May 2005

The company has begun to receive several applications from potential candidates, but Mr Vijay Patel said priority will be given to those who cannot afford to pay for their own scholarships.

The company, he said, will be putting aside R50,000 (US $9,000) annually to pay for the scholarships of three candidates, at the most. Mr Patel said this is possible because of the low costs of the disciplines selected which are namely paramedical, agriculture, computing, marine mechanic and hotel management.  For example the cost for the scholarship for hotel management is around US $2,750 whilst that for paramedical is around US $2,200. The duration of the courses is between two to three years.

According to Mr Patel, tuition fees in India are fairly low compared to western countries.

The sponsorship being offered by the company, Mr Patel said, would cover 100 percent the tuition fee, but candidates would have to contribute to cater for other expenses such as accommodation and travelling.  The students would require some US $120 per month to meet their living expenses.

Mr Patel said the company was willing to assist students to access foreign exchange to pay for the additional expenses.

Vijay Construction is liaising with a credible government-owned educational institution in India to organise for the admission of the successful candidates in their respective universities.

If all goes well the first three candidates will be leaving for India in June.
