Students' welcome home

Vice-President Belmont congratulates Mr Ally

Attended by Vice-President Belmont, Minister for Education and Youth Danny Faure and other members of the cabinet, the ceremony was staged to acknowledge the achievements of over 100 Seychellois students who graduated from a wide range of overseas universities last year.

Describing the returning graduates as, "young and intelligent, fresh and dynamic," Minister Faure congratulated them on their academic achievements and for serving as ambassadors for Seychelles.

"Come and join us in the noble task of building a more prosperous society for each and every one of us," said Minister Faure.

Many of the returning graduates have already joined the workforce and Minister Faure called on them to bring their university acquired skills to bear in the work place.

"Create conditions for innovations, join the workforce to increase productivity and efficiency," he said.

The ceremony also saw the award of the Vice-President's Cup, a trophy given to the student chosen as the best graduate by the Ministry of Education and Youth, which this year went to Jude Ally.

An art and design teacher at Plaisance secondary school, Mr Ally graduated from the Edith Cowan University, where he studied for two years after training at the NIE.
