Swimming-More young swimmers move up the grades

The young swimmers with their certificates

As the instructors called out the names of those who have passed the different tests to come forward and receive their certificates, it was interesting to see the others cheer.

Also present for the certificate presentation ceremony were parents, Seychelles Swimming Association chairperson Hazel Austin and assistant director of national swimming pools John Marie.

For the whole of the past two weeks, the swimmers followed intensive classes at the Roche Caïman swimming pools and each session lasted 45 minutes.

A total of 81 swimmers received certificates with star awards from one to five. There were 19 one star, 14 two stars, 12 three stars, 26 four stars and 10 five stars.

Another 15 swimmers are still working on improving their techniques to receive their grades and the highest total – seven – hope to get their five-star grade during the next learn to swim classes from May 16 to June 23.

All young swimmers holding five and six stars have been invited to join the talent identification programme and parents are being asked to encourage them to participate actively.
