7th National Education Conference opens Wednesday |11 May 2005

The two-day conference will be officially opened by the Designated Minister and Minister for Education and Youth, Danny Faure.

According to the ministry, this year’s theme has been chosen in response to the ongoing demand for a high standard of training for school leaders and other managers operating at various levels of the country’s education system.

“Therefore, this conference on educational leadership will showcase the achievements of the nineteen (19) school leaders who have completed the MBA in Educational Leadership programme, with a view to sharing some of the wisdom, knowledge and skills acquired through the training,” a spokesperson for the ministry said.

To this end, the conference papers will present some of the findings from the past MBA students’ studies that were carried out in the local context as part of the requirement of the course.

The keynote speaker at this year’s conference is Professor Tony Bush, Professor in Educational Leadership at Lincoln University and who has previously held similar posts at the universities of Leicester and Reading in England.

The conference delegates will comprise mainly directors, members of educational establishment’s management teams, teacher trainers, quality assurance officers and examination officers.  Members of the Education and Human Resources Development Department will also be among the delegates on the second day of the conference which will take place at the National Institute of Education.
