Football-Betsy donates to the SFF

Professional footballer Betsy (right) hands over a football to Congolese technical advisor Shungu

Betsy, who last season played for Oldham Athletics in the Coca-Cola Football League One in England, presented the equipment to SFF technical advisor, Congolese Raoul Shungu, during a short ceremony on Thurdday afternoon at Stad Linite.

Present were National Sports Council (NSC) managing director Eric Arnephy, Betsy’s father Lewis Betsy, himself a former Seychelles sweeper, and other NSC officials.

During the official presentation, Betsy said that the equipment, which comprises 100 Umbro footballs, training cones, 50 Nike bibs, an electric ball pump and 12 ball bags, are “essential items to help in the training of kids.”

On holiday here, Betsy added that he has seen some improvement in the training of young Seychellois footballers and praised the SFF for its future plans to build dormitories to be used by players.

Betsy, who last year joined Oldham Athletic from Barnsley after having made 100 appearances for them in two years following a spell with Fulham in the English Premier League, thanked local airline company Air Seychelles for freightage and all coaches he has worked with here.

For his part, technical advisor Shungu thanked Betsy for the kind gesture and asked other Seychellois living abroad to follow the footballer’s initiative.
