Football: Women’s Airtel Cup-Semifinalists get weekend off before resuming action |20 May 2005

But before taking to the field at Stad Popiler on Saturday May 28 to play the two semifinals, the female footballers will benefit from a weekend off to get themselves ready for more action.

The two semifinals match-ups are as follows: Revivers (group A runners-up) v Dolphins (group B winners) and Olympia Coast (group A winners) v United Sisters (group B runners-up).

The six participating teams were divided into two groups of three and they played each other once. The top two in each pool progressed to the semis.

Last year’s losing finalists Olympia Coast, who went on to win the League championship in front of main challengers Dolphins, won their group matches against Anse Aux Pins Blasters and Revivers on 4-0 scores.

Revivers took second place in the group after winning their match against Anse Aux Pins Blasters by the slightest of margins – 1-0.

Defending champions Dolphins, 3-0 winners against Olympia Coast thanks to a brace by Diane Lablache and a third goal by Vesna César in last year’s final, also won their two group matches.

Coached by Jason Damoo, Dolphins hammered United Sisters 5-0 and edged Ste Anne United 3-2.

United Sisters then surprised reigning Land Marine Cup champions Ste Anne United 1-0 to book a place in the semifinals.

The two teams who have missed the semis are Ste Anne United and Anse Aux Pins Blasters.

The winners of the semifinals will meet in the final on Saturday June 4 at 2.30 p.m. at Stad Linite.
