Health department welcomes 38 recruits

At hand to receive them in a ceremony at Victoria Hospital was the Minister of Health and Social Services Vincent Meriton, his principal secretary Maurice Loustau-Lalanne and top officials of the department’s management team.

The new personnel are 20 staff nurses, eight occupational therapy assistants and 10 emergency care assistants.
They graduated from the National Institute of Health and Social Studies (NIHSS) earlier this year.

In his welcoming speech, Mr Meriton reiterated the need for all health workers specially those caring for patients to maintain a high level of professionalism and to ensure the provision of quality care at all times.

He commended them for choosing a career in the health sector and underscored the need for all health workers to remain committed and focused to the physical and psychological needs of every individual patient.

“You need to apply what you have learned at the NIHSS and to be role models to other staff members,” Minister Meriton told the graduates.

In regard to career development and training, the Minister assured the new recruits that discussions are already at an advanced stage to help create conducive career paths to facilitate the professional development of all health workers.

For his part Mr Loustau Lalanne reinforced the calls raised by the minister and stressed on the need for proficiency in the health sector.

He shared his aspiration for the health services and renewed the appeal for everyone to respect hospital premises as no smoking zones.

The welcoming ceremony which took place last week ended with presentations on issues pertaining to training, employment conditions and promotions.
