Partnership company head pays courtesy call on VP

VP Belmont with CPTM head

Dr Mihaela Smith, accompanied by MNA Barry Faure, spent more than an hour in discussions with the vice president, with talks apparently focusing on how Seychelles could further get involved with the organisation.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr Smith referred to the CPTM as an “administration conduit” of a large group of individuals – from government and private sector leaders to individuals with the experience to “make things happen.”

She said the CPTM was a framework for cooperation in which leaders can benefit from their shared experiences. Dr Smith used an example of how Mozambique’s former president, drawing on his experiences during their country’s disastrous floods more than a decade ago, could provide information on a way forward to country leaders affected by last December’s tsunami.

The CPTM unofficially took shape during the mid ‘80s, when it was an informal network loosely based around Commonwealth countries.

In 1995, when it officially became a registered company as the CPTM, it introduced its “smart partnership” programme, which President James Michel helped to launch at the time, Dr Smith said.

She added that Mr Faure and Seychelles Investment Bureau CEO Joseph Nourrice were also proponents of the programme.

“We hope that this year Seychelles, even more so, will be part and parcel of the smart partnership movement,” she said.
According to its web site the CPTM is financed primarily by participating governments.
