According to Michel Savy, a member of the organising committee, this is because the 20th edition of the Kreol Festival will be celebrated in October.

“Since this year’s Kreol Festival will be on a bigger scope, the committee has decided to reduce on the number of activities for the FetAfrik. This means that most of the financial resources will be diverted to the Kreol Festival,” Savy said.

The series of activities will kick off Wednesday with an exhibition on the various aspects of slaves here. The event, which has been organised by the committee in close collaboration with L’Alliance Francaise, will remain open until Saturday at L’Alliance.

As from 5.30 p.m. members of the public will have the opportunity to enjoy a host of African music at La Bastille. Then Marie-France MacGregor, director general of National Heritage Division in the Ministry of Local Government, Sports and Culture will briefly address those present.

This will be followed by a film show where members of the public will learn more about women’s involvement in the economic activities in South Africa.

Also on Wednesday’s programme, Africans living here as well as the local artistes are expected to interpret an array of songs, recite poems and tell stories in Swahili, French and English.

Wednesday’s programme will culminate in a moutya again at La Bastille.
On Friday May 27, the Seafront Restaurant at the International Conference Centre  (ICCS) will play host to an African Gala Evening where members of the public will enjoy a variety of African dishes and dance to the beat of African music.

During the gala evening guests in the best African outfits will also be rewarded.

Tickets for the event, which is being organised in close collaboration with ISIJOLA’s Afrik, cost R150 and are on sale at the National Library.

The next day school children will get the opportunity to enjoy half day of traditional games such as rounders, seven stones, marbles, domino, balon prizonnyen and lapilapon.

Wednesday and on Friday, the National Library will also host an African Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. where African outfits and material will be on sale.
