The Minister for Land Use and Habitat Joel Morgan said this when he visited the new housing estate on Monday May 23 (afternoon).

He said that because of constraints to do with materials, especially the unavailability of corrugated iron sheets for roofing, the construction work has been slow.

Noting that 74 percent of the work has already been completed, Minister Morgan who was accompanied on the visit by other officials from his ministry said that 24 units of two-bedroom flats have already been allocated.

The R20 million housing project at Remise is fully funded by the government.
Construction work to build the 66 housing units comprising 54 two-bedroom and 12 three-bedroom flats started in December 2001.

Minister Morgan said that as construction work finishes on each block, the tenants will move in.
The project is being undertaken by Allied Builders Seychelles Ltd.

Once all the units are completed, work will start to improve the access road, landscaping and the removal of debris.
Among other facilities there will be three car parks as well as a shop and a playground.

Minister Morgan also announced that the second phase of the project is expected to start early next year.
Minister Morgan also announced that this is the first in a series of visits he is expected to undertake every week to all the on-going projects of new housing estates in Seychelles.
