Other countries around the world have already organised a number of sporting, cultural, leisure and recreational activities under the same theme.

To officially launch the activities on Wednesday night (May 25), Sylvette Pool, Minister for Local Government, Sports and Culture (MLGSC) unveiled one of the 'Sports and Physical Education' billboards placed at the entrance of the Roche Caïman sports complex.

Present were Sports and Culture principal secretary Patrick Nanty, National Sports Council (NSC) managing director Eric Arnephy, high ranking officials of the sports ministry and the NSC, invited guests and athletes.

In her speech delivered for the occasion, Sportslady of the Year Janet Thélermont said that “sport is the school of life.”
She added that sport and physical education play an important role in human development by bringing people together and have positive effects on human lives.

Two-time Sportslady of the Year Thélermont urged young Seychellois like her to take up sports rather than fall prey to negative influences like alcohol and drug abuse.
