Cycling-Low-Hong gets first win

LOW-HONG .... 107.5-km road race winner

Defending the St Francis colours, Low-Hong, 17, reached the finish line of the 107.5-km Land Marine-sponsored road race in front of seasoned Roy Mougal of Vélo Club de Mahé.

Both cyclists were credited with the same time of 3 hours 08 minutes 35 seconds (3h08:35) for an average speed of 34.202 kilometres per hour (34.202km/h).

“It was a tough race but I hanged in there to take my first win of the season. I hope to get some more wins as the season progresses,” Low-Hong told Sports Nation after Saturday’s race.

St Francis completed the podium with Alex Savy coming in third in a time of 3h09:07, the same time clocked by Vélo Club de Mahé’s Nelson Rose.
PLS Riders’ first rider home was Roniel Fanny in 3h09:19 for fifth position and he was followed by teammates Brian Sinon (sixth with 3h09:53) and Francis Louis (seventh with 3h11:38).

PLS Riders also finished as the best team with a cumulative time of 9h30:50, followed by St Francis with 9h33:27 and Vélo Club de Mahé in third position with 9h53:09.

It is to note that the best team award is calculated by adding the results of the first three riders in each team to have crossed the finish line.

The second best junior rider was St Francis’ Andriy Esparon (eighth overall) with 3h16:15 and third PLS Riders’ Andy Anthony (10th overall) with 3h22:05.

In the cadet category, France Anacoura has stayed invincible for a sixth consecutive race, winning the 53-km road race in 1h22:49, an average of 38.398km/h.

Jemmy Labrosse finished second in 1h27:45 and Ricky Servina third in 1h27:55.

Saturday’s race started at New Port and the cyclists pedalled to the Seychelles International Airport via Cascade, then turned left on to the Providence Highway to head to the Palais des Sports. They then headed to Grand Anse via the Providence Highway and Takamaka before heading back to town by taking the same route. Upon reaching the Seychelles International

Airport, the riders took the Cascade road to reach the finish line at New Port.
