Seychelles’ ambassador to the U.S. accredited |01 June 2005

Mr Bonnelame presented his credentials on Thursday May 26, 2005 to the President of the United States of America, George W. Bush.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bonnelame was warmly received by officials of both the State Department and the White House.

Noting that the United States and Seychelles have had excellent relations either at diplomatic, political or economic levels since the latter’s independence, Mr Bonnelame said his task here was to further strengthen these ties.

“The Seychellois people are pleased to welcome U.S. citizens to its shores. We support the United States in its endeavour to better the life of peoples throughout the world,” the communiqué quoted Ambassador Bonnelame as saying.

In his reply President Bush said: “The relationship between the United States and the Republic of Seychelles continues to grow. I look forward to seeing continued expansion of economic opportunities for the people of Seychelles and those wishing to do business in Seychelles. The success of the reforms being undertaken by President Michel is a vital element to this progress.

“I am grateful  for the support of the Republic of Seychelles in the Global War on Terrorism. The success of this task is crucial to the welfare of the people of the world.”
Afterward, President Bush sought information on the rehabilitation of infrastructures in Seychelles following damages caused by the tsunami, the communiqué added.

The communiqué noted that Ambassador Bonnelame and President Bush also shared views on the on-going reforms of Seychelles’ economy, with President Bush reiterating his readiness to support Seychelles in whatever manner possible.
