Football: Division One-St Louis score 3-1 win over The Lions |06 July 2006

Both teams were missing key players and they both struggled to display some good football for the handful of spectators who had turned up.

St Louis had the edge over The Lions early in the match and Gervais Waye-Hive concluded a good move by prodding the ball past Kitson Cécile in The Lions goal for a 20th minute 1-0 lead.

When it was expected that St Louis would go on the rampage, it was The Lions who put their feet on the ball, pinning coach Marc Mathiot’s players in their own half.

Shooting from almost every position in an attempt to surprise St Louis’ stand-in goalkeeper Steve Morgan, The Lions drew level in the 41st minute following a fine strike by Ezekiel Akatsa.

When they looked closer to getting their second win of the season, The Lions, who were dictating things in midfield, conceded two goals in six minutes to lose the match.

Kenneth Khan gave St Louis back the lead in the 78th minute and former Red Star striker Tony Morel added the third six minutes later.

With the win – their third in eight games – St Louis have moved into fifth place in the 10-team standings with 12 points, while The Lions, who won promotion to the top flight via the play-offs by beating Survivors, they are still carrying the weight of the table with just four points out of a possible 27.

Meanwhile, defending champions La Passe were to be in action against Red Star Wednesday July 5.
