Civil aviation’s old-timers awarded

Messrs Brutus and Esparon (2nd and 4th from left) with the chief executive officer of the SCAA, Gilbert Faure and the authority’s chairman, Gerard Lafortune

During a ceremony that was held at the Wharf Hotel, the 31 were presented with cash awards, certificates and trophies made in the shape of a turtle, for their service which ranged from 10 to 40 years.

It was the SCAA’s chief fire officer, Marc Brutus and senior fire officer Peter Esparon, who received top awards for their 40 years’ service.

Mr Brutus said he joined public service in 1966 as a police officer, while Mr Esparon started off in the same year as a meter reader.

They both urged their younger colleagues to persevere even when they meet challenges, saying in the long run they will realise personal progress and development they will be proud of.

The chairman of the SCAA, Gerard Lafortune, congratulated and commended the awardees, and said that the authority has recently seen reorganization and radical changes that will see it excel as the country moves forward faster.

He said that SCAA will have a key role to play in the new direction towards further progress that Seychelles has taken.
