Handball-PLS Hurricanes and Arsu 2006 League champions

PLS Hurricanes have returned as champions

PLS Hurricanes clinched the 2006 title with a 30-23 victory over bottom team Super 8s in their last league game, whilst Arsu found runners-up AC Sisters a hard nut to crack as they narrowly won 16-15.

With five wins and one defeat out of six matches, PLS Hurricanes recaptured the league title after past wins in 2003 and 2004. They lost last year’s crown to Durantha Brothers.

Led in offence by Bradley Stravens who scored seven goals, PLS Hurricanes clearly showed their intention by maintaining the lead throughout and at the half-time, they were ahead 15-10. In the second half, they again netted 15 goals whilst Super 8s managed to score 13 more. They thus won the match 30-23 and the 2006 crown.

With 12 points, AC Brothers are temporarily occupying second place and will surely be relegated to third place when Durantha Brothers meet Super 8s this coming Saturday.

Currently third with 11 points, Durantha Brothers have a superior goal difference and will automatically overtake AC Brothers in the standings even if they win or lose.

Arsu are this year’s women’s champions

In last Saturday’s women’s match, Arsu met AC Sisters in a crucial and crunch match.

Title favourites Arsu needed a win to wrap up their first league championship win and before they could celebrate the feat, they encountered tough resistance from AC Sisters.

After losing the first half 5-9, AC Sisters fought back through Dania Estico who scored nine goals but they still lost 15-16.

With one match left to play, AC Sisters must win if they are to maintain second position.

In the event of a defeat and victories for third-placed Mont Fleuri in their last two games, the latter will clinch the runners-up spot.

The league competition will continue on Saturday at the Palais des Sports with  Mont Fleuri taking on Super Teens in a women’s match and in the last men’s league match of the season, Durantha Brothers will entertain Super 8s.
