First sighting of Ghost Pipefish in Silhouette Marine National Park |14 January 2008

NPTS has been investigating the diversity of the reef-flats and lagoons, recording many species around Silhouette for the first time.

One of the most unusual findings was a ghost pipefish Solenostomus cyanopterus. 

This pipefish has an exact resemblance to a piece of weed, making it very hard to find.  T

he new sighting is only the third record of the species in Seychelles. 

Both previous sightings were in the Mare Anglaise area of Mahé in the 1980s.
