Special mass pays tribute to victims of accidents at work

The special mass yesterday attracted a large congregation

Among the congregation were the Minister for Employment and Human Resources Development, Macsuzy Mondon, other high officials from the ministry and some members of the National assembly.

This year’s theme for the occasion is ‘Managing risk in the work environment’
Catholic bishop Denis Wiehe and Reverend Peter Rath from the Anglican church led the mass conducted in the three official languages of Seychelles – English, French and Creole.

A member of the organizing committee, Derrick Samson, said that the ministry is appealing to workers to be very careful when they are in their workplace so as to avoid having accidents.

In his sermon, Rev. Rath said that safety is not just a secular concern to ensure the productivity of the company but is also a part of an individual’s spirituality. He said that it is part of taking care that God has put people on earth to experience.

Rev Rath added that people should develop an attitude of putting others first in everything they do and not just at the workplace.

Bishop Wiehe went on to say that workers should develop more humane attitudes at work as well.

Also during the mass yesterday morning, a representative of the ministry donated some safety gear to the church. The equipment will mainly be used by people working in the church gardens.

The mass was organized by the Department of Employment in collaboration with its social partners.
