Golf-Maarej Rizvi takes home SeyBrew Classic trophy

Winner Rizvi (second left) receives his prizes from Mr Lucas

He carded a net 61, being 6 under par, to top the table on the first day and finished with 67 on the second and last day of the competition.

After the first day of play when players had to do the least number of shots in the medal format playing system, senior players Jerry Jean-Baptiste, Maurice Lousteau-Lalanne and Godfrey Andrade were hot on Rizvi’s heels.

The four players played in the same last group on Sunday. If the senior players thought they could pile the pressure on young Rizvi, they were in for a rude awakening. Although he did not perform as he did on the first day, Rizvi held on and his score of net 67 showed that his strategy was to play to his handicap.

The fight for second and third places was between Lousteau-Lalanne and Jean-Baptiste.
Lousteau-Lalanne was unfortunate to stumble on the 13th hole. Going for a birdie, he ended up with a double bogey. And on the 17th tee, he pulled two shots out of bounds and ended up with a nine, which all but ended his chances of finishing second. He finished with 138.

Jean-Baptiste scored 133 to grab the runner-up position and he also got the best gross score of 123.
Andrade settled for the best Saturday as Lousteau-Lalanne had won third prize.
A total of 33 golfers took part in the popular tournament.

Club captain Richard D’Offay welcomed Seychelles Breweries’ new general manager, Aubrey Lucas, and presented the prizes to all the winners.

In his closing speech, Mr D’Offay thanked Seychelles Breweries for its continued support to the club and all sports in general. He added that he looked forward to another competition next year.
