Karting-Delcy, Sophie and Labrosse win in season-opener |24 April 2009

With eight drivers taking the start of the Formula C class, it was Roland Delcy who claimed maximum points – 28 – from the three races to top the day. Peter Fred finished second with 24 points and Marc Delcy third 21.

Roland Delcy was making a return to racing after taking a year off, while Fred has decided to drop down from the premier class – Formula A – to try his luck in this class.

Camille Underwood and Stephan Simon finished just one point off third spot with 20 points each to take the fourth and fifth places.

The Junior class was packed with more than 11 drivers taking part, making the racing interesting and intense. Marvin Sophie took top spot with 21 points. Last year’s Junior class champion Franchisco Thiroomooldy, who also won the best driver of the year title, finished second with 19 points, while Yannick Gabriel was third with 16.

Christian Bastienne finished fourth with 14 points, while Mervin Serret, Montel Kutz and Dayne Ebrahim all finished one point behind with the same number of points – 13 – for fifth, sixth and seventh positions.

Drivers in the Junior class had to run just two races as rain flooded the circuit and officials decided to call it a day for safety reasons.

In the Ladies’ class, Mitra Labrosse was first with 33 points. Diane Alvis, 2008 ladies’ champion and best female driver of the year, and Debra Mellon finished the day in joint second position with 30 points. Marie-Lucy Sullivan took fourth position with 23 points and Bernadette Mein was fifth with 22.

There are a few seats available in the Ladies’ class, and drivers who are interested in joining should contact any Seychelles Karting Association official for further information.

Meanwhile, due to new starting number regulations imposed this year, the Formula A class was not run.
On Saturday afternoon, Novice class drivers will take part in their third training session.
