Court of Appeal begins new session |29 April 2009

At its opening session on Monday Justice Francis MacGregor, president of the Court of Appeal, welcomed Justice Anthony Fernando on his first appearance in a session.

It was explained that some of the court’s staff and premises were occupied recently with a commission of inquiry, which has been postponed until after this session.

An update was given on the process of compiling an annual record of the court’s judgments, starting with 2008 – now completed – and aiming to reach 1988, the year after the last official law reports of the Court of Appeal in 1987.

Once that process is complete, the court will move on to indexing and cataloguing the law reports. From there, it is expected to go international by joining Lexus Nexus, an international website for such material.
