Volleyball: National Championship-Title contenders off to good start

Women’s defending champions Arsu needed 66 minutes to beat La Digue 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-15). They were imitated by rivals Cascade, who defeated BSA Sisters 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-7) in 53 minutes and SMB, who inflicted a second defeat on visitors La Digue, on a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-16) score after 59 minutes of play.

BSA Sisters returned to Praslin with a win after beating top-flight newcomers Roots Sisters 3-1 (25-11, 25-22, 20-25, 25-11) in 87 minutes.

In two women’s lower division matches, Cadettes came from two sets down to edge Mont Fleuri United 3-2 (14-25, 15-25, 25-10, 25-16, 16-14) in 98 minutes and Cascade Youth beat relegated St Louis Bombers 3-1 (25-18, 25-11, 13-25, 25-18) after 78 minutes of action.

Men’s champions Premium Spikers looked good as they got a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) 75-minute victory against St Louis in their first match.

Beau Vallon, who have been complaining of not having a training venue and having to do their workouts on the beach, needed an hour to beat Praslin-based BSA Spikers 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17).

After dropping the first set, Racing Club were made to fight off Roots’ challenge before collecting a 3-1 (27-29, 25-19, 25-19, 25-18)  win in 85 minutes.
