Table tennis: Anse Aux Pins Junior Championship-Nibourette and Sinon claim top prizes |29 April 2009
The tournament took place last Sunday with 53 players competing for the ultimate prize in their categories.
In the junior boys, Anil Nibourette defeated Dario Laurence 3-1 in the final. Laurence started out strongly, taking the first set 11-6, but then allowed Nibourette to win the other three sets, 11-7, 11-9 and 11-6.
In the junior girls’ category, since there were only four players, a league system was used. Laura Sinon won all her three matches, against Ruby Arissol, Alicia Ernesta and Christie Bristol. Sinon beat Arissol 3-0, Ernesta 3-0, and Bristol 3-2 to claim first prize.
The boys’ under-16s had Nahil Sally as the winner, beating Jean-Yves Pothin in his final match. Sally won in three straight sets, 11-9, 11-7 and 11-4.
And in the youngest category for the tournament, the boys’ under-12s, Greg Valmont climbed to the highest podium position by beating Bryon Mousbé. Valmont lost the first set 7-11 then pulled up his socks to win the next three, 11-8, 11-9 and 11-3.
The district’s National Assembly member, Joseph François, presented the cups and prizes to the winners.
