Miss Regatta 2009 in Creole style |23 May 2009

Ashvin Seeboo, Round Table chairman, said the pageant has been held for the past 35 years but this year improvements are being made in the way it is run.

Regatta organiser Elvis Chetty said the concept for 2009 is to have two preliminary ties, with a final to be held at the International Conference Centre on August 22.

There will be a preliminary tie in the north at the Tequila Boom discotheque and one in the south at the Katiolo.

The two shows will be filmed, and finalists will also be interviewed to create a short presentation on each of them for airing on television.
“This will give the public the chance to vote for the finalist they prefer, and the winner of that poll will be known as the People’s Choice,” said Mr Chetty.

Airtel has provided the organisers with a service to be used by the general public to vote via SMS.

Cash prizes as well as other gifts will be awarded to the winner, as well as to other title winners such as Miss Photogenic, Miss Personality and Best Evening Wear.

Recently crowned Miss Deaf Seychelles, Shana David, will be taking part along with 11 other finalists.

Mr Chetty thanked the main sponsor, Takamaka Bay, for helping to stage the event as well as other sponsors such as Kenwyn House, Telly’s Modelling Agency, the Amusement Centre and Incipe.

The organisers will also have a theme song, which will be used to promote the pageant on television and during the show itself. This will be performed by talented young group the YF Crew.

Terry Carolla, from Telly’s Modelling Agency, said they are looking for local designers who are ready to sponsor costumes for the show’s opening dance routine.

He also called on all those interested in sports to come forward to make the event a success.

“We call on those taking part to do it for the cause, to be part of the charitable event,” he said.

The organisers said the only criterion set for the contest is a minimum age of 18 for contestants.

All those wishing to enter the beauty pageant are asked to register by the deadline of May 30. Forms can be collected at Telly’s in the Premier Building, and further information is available by phoning 224360.

The Miss Regatta theme has been chosen to promote Creole culture, values and traditions.
