National choir to host fundraising concert tonight |23 May 2009

The show, which will feature solo as well as group performances, forms part of the choir’s fundraising activities.

Well-known singers and musicians such as Jean Ally, Jean-Marc Volcy and Steven Robert will – alongside newcomers like Jean-Christophe Legros, Aneesa Hoareau and Genevieve Adrien – perform popular pieces such as Gloria in Excelsis from Vivaldi’s Gloria, Pie Jesu from Jean Rutter’s Requiem and Barcarolle from Offenbach’s Opéra Fantastique.

There will be also instrumental performances from musicians such as saxophonist Jean Quatre, violinist Luigi Ghiani and pianist Kuniko Boniface.

Choral conductor Sun Xiaoju Lownam said the aim of the concert is to raise money for the choir to take part in the International Arts Festival in China later this year.

She is inviting local sponsors to contribute towards the trip and she thanked those who have already donated to the cause.
Tickets for the show, which will begin at 6.30pm, cost R50.
