Donation to tourism academy for restaurant upgrade

Mr Gandhi (right) hands over a sample of the donation to Mr Kopacek in the presence of Mr Joubert and some students

Sponsored by the Allied Builders company, the work – to meet standards set by the Seychelles Tourism Board – is expected to finish by August 1.

The donation was handed over by Allied Builders’ construction manager Vijay Gandhi to STA chairman Roman Kopacek in a short ceremony at the school recently. STA staff and company representatives were also present.

The equipment included ceiling fans, toilet sets, light fittings and various types of wood, and is worth more than R27,000.
STA principal Flavien Joubert explained that although the La Goelette restaurant is still in good condition, it was necessary to carry out certain upgrading and maintenance work.

The Hilton Northolme Seychelles, Labriz Silhouette and Banyan Tree hotels have freely released staff from their maintenance departments to do the work, and Allied Builders’ marketing and public relations manager Travis Fred asked other construction firms to join in the donations.

Mr Joubert also announced a pledge by the Island Construction Company of more than R200,000 for work that will soon start on the academy’s hotel rooms. These will also be upgraded to meet certain standards, and the work will be done free of charge by sponsors.
