Football: Barclays league division one-La Passe shatter St Michel’s unbeaten run

On Friday 10-man Northern Dynamo were held to a 3-3 draw by LightStars at Stad Linite.

La Passe’s Ernesta towered over Anacoura and St Michel on La Digue on SaturdayLa Passe break St Michel’s unbeaten run

On Saturday it was unlucky 13 for St Michel as they lost for the first time in their 13 league matches and their number 13, Philip Zialor, did not turn up for the match.

In fact, St Michel were unbeaten for the whole of this year and on Saturday they suffered their first defeat in open play in a top-of-the-table clash though they still hold a healthy eight-point lead at the top.

La Passe, who have a good record against St Michel, got off to a good start as Hubert Ernesta beat reserve goalie Gino Melanie in the fifth minute to give La Passe a 1-0 lead. He scored his brace on the half-hour mark to make it 2-0.

St Michel though reduced the arrears as referee Gonzague Boniface awarded them a penalty and Don Anacoura dispatched the ball past goalie Vincent Euphrasie for a 2-1 halftime score.

St Michel brought on goalie Nelson Sopha for the second half as they attempted to tighten their defence as well as try to restore the balance of play.

According to St Michel coach Ralph Jean-Louis, his team went in search of an equaliser and hit the post three times before they were struck by a severe blow late in the match.

Young Collin Bibi broke away to confirm La Passe’s victory, beating Sopha for a 3-1 score.
Jean Louis said he was very disappointed with the result especially with the absence of Zialor for such a match.

Rose penalty helps Anse Reunion beat Foresters

Anse Reunion defeated bottom club Foresters 1-0 at Stad Linite on Saturday in a low-key match.
The victory helped Anse Reunion to move into the top-four and boost their chances of playing in the top pool in the third round.

Foresters held their own in this match though Anse Reunion were guilty of some bad misses.
In the 21st minute, Malagasy Jocelyn picked out his compatriot Francisco Ramsy but his control let him down in a good position.

A minute later, Brian Dorby bore forward and his superb cross set captain Yelvanny Rose in the clear but he failed to capitalise on the chance.

In the 24th minute, Jocelyn combined with Jean Eddy Randriamihaju, who fed Roderick Rose and he in turn released Samy Radegonde who shot wide.

A minute later, Foresters were gifted a good chance as Dave Max slipped a pass to Aaron Jean, who was yards offside but assistant referee Darrel Monthy failed to signal. Jean tried to round goalie Ricky Rose, who stopped him in his stride.
On a swift counter-attack, Jocelyn shot straight at goalie Julio Toulon when she should have done better.

In the 27th minute, Anse Reunion were awarded a penalty by referee Jacque André as Foresters defender Marcus Botsoie pulled back Ramsy, who had latched onto a through pass. Ricky Rose left his goal to send Toulon the wrong way (1-0).

Toulon made good saves from Yelvanny Rose and Ramsy in the 34th and 36th minutes.
Foresters almost drew level on the stroke of halftime as Leeroy Gomme let fly a fantastic shot which Ricky Rose tipped over the bar.

Anse Reunion , who missed decent chances through Ramsy (46th), substitute Milison Niasere (68th and 77th), should have added a second goal in injury time. Milison picked up a pass to elude a couple of defenders and laid the ball on a plate to Yelvanny Rose, who blazed it wide from five metres out with the goal at his mercy.

Ten-man Dynamo surrender two-goal lead

Ten-man Northern Dynamo surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 against Praslin-based LightStars on Friday at Stad Linite.

Dynamo had to play the entire second half with 10 men as defender Jake Constant received a straight red from referee Eddie Maillet in the opening minute of this half as he tripped Malagasy Mamy  Tiana Rokotoalison, who was clean through on goal.

Nonetheless, LightStars got off to a perfect start as they opened the scoring in the first minute as Hugh Jeanne beat goalie Jules Monnaie (1-0).

LightStars were on top and the same Jeanne had a couple of chances to extend their advantage.
Dynamo though fought back and drew level in the 13th minute when captain Asman Todisoa was brought down in the box by Bernard Esther and Maillet pointed to the penalty spot. Defender Steve Henriette stepped up to fire the ball past goalkeeper Denis Fideria (1-1).

The goal spurred Dynamo as they went ahead a minute later as Evans Télémaque beat Fideria (2-1).
The second half began in explosive fashion as the young Malagasy Rokotoalison burst through but Constant brought him down and was given his marching orders.

Despite the man shortage, Dynamo stunned LightStars in the 54th minute. Teddy Cupidon drove a corner across goal and Todisoa’s glancing header went into the net as Rokotoalison attempted to clear on the goal-line (3-1).

LightStars’ Malagasy player, Elvis Mario Ravo, should have reduced the arrears in the 57th minute but he shot wide.

Dynamo were still dangerous when they went forward and on the hour mark Télémaque chipped a pass to Darrel Damoo, but somehow he volleyed over the crossbar.

In the 63rd minute, Ravo eluded the defence but was hacked down by Steve Henriette, who was booked but Colin Esther floated the freekick over the bar.

Four minutes later, LightStars reduced the deficit as Senky Vidot lofted a freekick into the penalty area and substitute Renick Esther headed down to Colin Esther whose right foot volley found refuge in the net (3-2).

LightStars drew level in the 75th minute. Vidot sent in another impressive freekick which Renick Esther headed into the net despite Monnaie’s attempt to clear the danger (3-3).

The game could have gone either way in the final 15 minutes.  In the 81st minute, Dynamo’s Francis Moumou’s cross-cum-shot forced Fideria to punch out.

A minute later at the other end, LightStars had a strong shout for a penalty turn down as Ravo’s shot came off Henriette’s hand but referee Maillet was not convinced.

In injury time, substitute Valerio Dorothé played a quick freekick to captain Todisoa, catching LightStars defence flat footed but the Malagasy’s shot was pushed out to Télémaque, who inexplicably shot over with the goal begging.

At the end, tempers almost flared as the coaches exchanged strong words on certain decisions in the match though LightStars were more disappointed as victory would almost have guaranteed them a top-four finish at the end of the second round.
