He was speaking at the 16th annual general meeting of the Seychelles Scouts Association (SSA), which took place at the Sports Training Centre in Victoria.

During the meeting, which was attended by chief commissioner John Marie, SSA executive members and scout leaders, Inese Payet was elected as the association’s new secretary, while Marylyn Jean-Louis is the new treasurer.

Betty-May Cupidon was appointed in the new constitutional position of venture and rover scouting commissioner.

In the council’s report, Mr Elisabeth noted that many youngsters have shown an interest in joining scouting, but due to a lack of leaders the SSA has found it difficult to accept and cater for them.

He explained that the SSA is targeting young scouts aged from 18 years to take up leader’s positions.
Visits have been made to potential sponsors and supporters of scouting to boost the SSA’s work, and most of them have shown an interest in backing the various programmes planned.

Mr Elisabeth said this year the SSA is initiating a new award scheme for leaders and volunteers to recognise their hard work and commitment.

He also said they are planning to launch the first Seychelles Scouts Foundation as part of efforts to boost the financial and support base of the association for self-reliance and sustainability.
