Barclays launches Seychelles’ first international debit card |06 April 2010

Both new and existing customers may apply for the Barclays International Debit Card, launched on April 1 in collaboration with Visa International.

A press release from the bank says this facility provides customers “with the highest levels of banking convenience”, here in the Seychelles or wherever they travel, reducing the need to carry cash when travelling overseas.

The new international debit card enables the bank's customers to withdraw cash at ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) displaying the VISA sign in Seychelles and at some 600,000 other ATMs worldwide.

In addition, customers will be able to use their cards to make payments globally at 18 million retail outlets, and make purchases on-line.

For the first time, all transactions made around the world, will be payable in Seychelles Rupees and will be debited immediately from the customer’s main transactional account.

Retail director, William Zarine, said: “The launch of this international debit card marks another significant milestone in Barclays Seychelles product offerings, further strengthening Barclays Seychelles’ leading position in the deployment and implementation of more flexible payment solutions to our customers.”

Commenting on the launch of this new product, the bank’s managing director, Loganaden Sidambaram, said: “Barclays Seychelles is pleased to be at the forefront of innovation. We will continue to upgrade our services to make banking easier and more flexible for our customers, in line with our new vision for Barclays Africa: to be the Best Bank in Africa, with a focus on ‘Lives Made Much Easier’ for our customers, colleagues, company and the communities in which we operate.”
