1st All-Africa Youth Games-Boxer Allisop reaches today’s final

Allisop won on points – 15-3 – against Togolese Hounkpatin Jomlangam in one of the two ALLISOP … featherweight gold medal hopefulsemifinals on Wednesday.

In today’s final, he will have to overcome the home crowd and Moroccan Malek Said, who defeated Tayson Ndjebouboum of Tchad 17-4 in the other semifinal.

In table tennis at the Derfoufi indoor gym, Anil Nibourette and Christy Bristol were in yesterday’s second round of the group phase after finishing among the top two in their pools at the end of the first round.

In the women’s category, Bristol finished first after winning 3-0 against a player from Djibouti and walking over a Nigerian in her second match.

Nibourette finished second in his men’s pool after a win – by a walkover against a Malagasy – and two losses – 0-3 to a Congolese and 2-3 to an Ethiopian.

He was to play Moroccans Malak and Mahmaml, and Mauritian Warren Li Kam Wa yesterday in group A.

In swimming at the Mohamed V Swimming Complex, Aurelie Fanchette took part in three races – 50m breaststroke (41.95 seconds to finish 11th out of 14), 100m backstroke (1:18.75 to finish 6th out of 8) and 100m freestyle (1:06.86 to finish 8th out of 13).

Young Male Athlete of the Year Shane Mangroo was in action in the 400m freestyle (4:46.05 to finish 5th out of 7) and 100m backstroke (1:12.86 to finish 5th out of 6).

The other Seychellois at the Games are track and field specialists Marie-Michelle Athanase (200m) and Carlos Marianne (200m and 400m) and judoka Carlos Labiche (55kg).

Except for swimming, which is taking place in Casablanca, all the other sports are in Rabat.
The Seychelles delegation is headed by Hebetty Alcindor of the Seychelles Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association.
